Coronavirus COVID-19 Update
OIC’s overriding objective at all times is protecting the safety of our patients and employees. We are closely monitoring the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. You can be confident that we are following the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, LA County Department of Public Health and our public health partners updates and recommendations.
Please know that there is no known case of coronavirus (COVID-19) at Orthopaedic Institute for Children.
We understand you and your family may be anxious about COVID-19. The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. Contact your primary care physician or health care provider if you are experiencing these symptoms, if you have traveled in the last month, or if you have been in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. As a reminder, the best prevention you can take includes washing your hands frequently, cough into your elbow or a tissue and not your hands and stay home if you’re sick.
OIC encourages social distancing practices as they can help stop the spread of infections. Social distancing means avoiding gatherings of more than 10 individuals, and maintaining distance (approximately 6 feet) from others when possible.
To patients and families: We have taken extraordinary steps to ensure the safety of children, their parents and our own staff. As we continue to follow state and local guidelines, we’ve instituted a one parent to one patient policy, we’re taking the temperature of everyone entering our buildings and we are continuing to practice social distancing. And, of course, all of our staff members are wearing appropriate protective equipment including masks, shields and gloves. As a result of these combined efforts, OIC remains open, and safe, to provide essential services to children in need of orthopedic care.
OIC has developed the OIC COVID-19 Emergency Fund in response to numerous requests from foundations and individuals. Monies raised from this fund will help us continue our critical work in the community, while also allowing us to act swiftly and purposefully to any new challenges we may face in these changing times.
