There are only a small number of hematologists in the United States who focus their efforts on coagulation disorders, which puts the Orthopaedic Hemophilia Treatment Center (OHTC) in a select category of treatment centers dedicated to hemophilia and related disorders. We are one of 140 federally funded hemophilia treatment centers in the United States. We are pioneers in hemophilia leading groundbreaking research, innovative customized physical therapy and genetic counseling for patients.

OUR RESEARCH CENTERS
Groundbreaking Research
OHTC has always been committed to advancing research and clinical trials of treatments for patients with bleeding disorders. OHTC was one of the first to begin using a plasma concentrates that was developed by a Los Angeles-based company and that same year OHTC performed the first elective orthopedic surgery under cover of the same concentrate with outstanding results.
The center’s commitment to active participation in clinical trials continues even today with trials for new factor and non-factor products and gene therapy for hemophilia.

J. Vernon Luck SR., MD Research Center
The J. Vernon Luck, Sr., MD Orthopaedic Research Center is located on the Downtown Campus of Orthopaedic Institute for Children, founded as Orthopaedic Hospital in 1911. The Research Center was dedicated to J. Vernon Luck, Sr., M.D., in 1986. The JVL Research Center is internationally recognized for advances in implant performance, including wear, fixation, retrieval analysis, and clinical outcome, as well as fracture, healing and repair.

Orthopaedic Hospital Research Center
It is here that the research activities of Luskin Orthopaedic Institute for Children and UCLA combine to create the largest collaborative and coordinated orthopaedic research effort in the United States. The partnership enables OIC to greatly expand its musculoskeletal research activities to explore and develop new technologies for the discipline of orthopaedic surgery, in addition to new developments in gene therapy, musculoskeletal oncology, tissue engineering and biomedical engineering.
